BANYAN AND MICROSOFT ESTABLISH
TECHNICAL SUPPORT ALLIANCE
WESTBORO, Mass., Nov. 12, 1991 -- Banyan Systems Incorporated and
Microsoft Corporation today announced the establishment of a new
technical support alliance. This cooperative support relationship
will make it more convenient for customers common to both companies
to obtain comprehensive, consistent and timely resolution of
complex technical issues in multi-vendor networking environments.
The alliance expands the long-standing collaborative relationship
between the two companies, which preceded the formal May 1990
agreement to ensure compatibility and interoperability between
Banyan and Microsoft products.
Effective immediately, the technical support agreement assigns
specific responsibilities for handling customer service requests
that involve numerous interoperable Banyan and Microsoft products,
including VINESR Versions 4.11 and 5.0, WindowsTM and OS/2TM.
It also outlines procedures to ensure the fastest possible delivery
of solutions to customers, and sets guidelines for using additional
resources from both companies to correct difficult situations.
Under the agreement, when a customer calls Banyan for technical
support for a VINES network and Banyan determines that assistance
from Microsoft is required, Banyan will act as the single point of
contact for the customer to coordinate the joint effort. Similarly,
Microsoft will serve as the single point of customer contact for
problems reported to them that need Banyan's assistance.

In addition, the agreement calls for technical training of Banyan
and Microsoft support and engineering staff, product exchanges, and
the sharing of each company's technical information database.
"This technical support alliance naturally builds upon our existing
relationship with Microsoft," said Greg Reyes, Banyan Vice
President, North American Field Operations and Corporate Support.
"This agreement not only ensures that our users and resellers get
prompt and consistent answers; it also strengthens our ability to
provide support for truly open systems."
"Microsoft is committed to making Windows the best desktop
operating system for networks. Through Windows, customers can
easily access and view corporate information anywhere in their
network," said Patty Stonesifer, Microsoft General Manager for
Product Support Services. "This agreement provides a strong
foundation for Microsoft and Banyan to continue to deliver
innovative and versatile networking solutions to our customers."
